Final Approach

I shot this playing around with some night photography last week. Night shooting can be a lot of fun because of all of the combinations of shutter speed, aperture and ISO (what we used to call film speed) to really mess with the exposure. It’s also fascinating, too, when something like this is captured. My house is on the approach to Cleveland Hopkins Airport. This is the track of a jetliner’s lights – notice the airplane itself was too dark and fast to make the exposure. Kind of UFO-esque.

Some not-so-very frequent flash lightning and a nearly full moon that night added to the light mix. (Shutter open for 30 seconds at f/16 and ISO set to 1600.)

It’s one of about 100 shots I made that night. And yes, that IS an empty bottle of wine in the tree.
